What to do in Barcelona?

OUTDOOR

ART

Enjoy outdoor art

Art

Although Barcelona has a large number of exceptional art galleries and museums, you do not need to pay anything to enjoy its art. Walk along Passeig de Gràcia to see works by the best Catalan modernist architects. On the Rambla del Raval you can take photos with the huge bronze cat made by Fernando Botero, the famous Colombian sculptor. Visit the Plaza de Isidre Nonell, in Ciutat Vella, to enjoy another contemporary work: a large photomosaic by Joan Fontcuberta, composed of about 4,000 photos taken by people from the city. You will like "The world is born in every kiss" both from afar and up close.

THE BEST

VIEWS

Find the best views

History

To discover the best views of the city, visit the Parc del Guinardó. A spiral of circular paths meanders up the hill. The top will offer you fantastic panoramic views of Barcelona. Above, just a little higher, you will find the Carmel bunkers, at the top of the Turó de la Rovira. They were built as anti-aircraft batteries in 1938, during the Civil War and were restored in 2000. Keep in mind that there are still neighbors who live on the adjacent streets, respect their tranquility and privacy.

VERMOUT

TIME

Vermut

Food

Vermut (vermouth) is in Barcelona what brunch is in New York. Hence it almost has a verb of its own. "Fer el vermut" or "vermutejar" is to accompany this drink with some of the most typical tapas in Barcelona: some patatas bravas, some olives and some bombas (battered potato balls, stuffed with spicy meat). It is definitely one of the Barcelona traditions that you can't miss. The best sites? Visit the small wineries of neighborhoods like Gràcia or Barceloneta.

TOUR

THE CITY

Tour the city on foot or by bike

Sport

Barcelona has a lot and has everything but it is not so big in size. The best way to enjoy it, especially because of the lucky weather all year round, is on foot or by bike. In fact, you can cross the entire city from end to end in two hours on foot. To give you more context: Avenida Diagonal, the largest, measures 10 kilometers. That is equivalent to crossing the neighborhood of Palermo, in Buenos Aires, or half of Manhattan twice.

Barcelona has a wide range of guided tours. If yours is to discover the city by someone who lives in it and has studied it thoroughly, here are some ideas of what awaits you in Barcelona: routes on how Barcelona was in medieval, modernist or during the Civil War, on women forgotten by history, LGBTI route, another of curiosities and legends ...
